Prepare well before making your short film pitch. Make sure you are clear on your 'value proposition'. That is
Make sure you really understand your product
Be clear on how your product is different from its competitors
Ensure that you are convinced of the benefits your product offers, and make them quantifiable where possible.
You have about 60 seconds to make your pitch your pitch, so plan out the key messages you want to deliver in that time.
You will have to keep your pitch as clear and as simple as possible - so avoid any business jargon, or points that are technical in nature. Try to create a story with four or five logically linked points: this will help you to remember the flow of the pitch when you're recording it. It will also mean that the judging panel will be follow your pitch.
Try to be as confident as possible when you're recording your pitch.
People buy people and, importantly, their confidence in themselves. Make sure your are clearly heard on your recording and that your body language conveys your confidence in yourself and your passion in your product. Place emphasis on the most important aspects of your pitch.
Make sure that the set in which you are making your short film pitch is clear and simple.
Too much going on in the background will distract your viewers. If you have a product to show, make sure it can be clearly seen - in particular, any relevant features that deliver real benefits for potential customers.
Dress neatly or appropriately for your pitch.
Your clothes will send a lot of messages about you as a person, and will leave an impression on the judging panel.
Practice your pitch on someone who will give you constructive feedback.
And then practice it again and again. Watch a recording of yourself, observe what you do well and where you need to bring more emphasis. It's a performance, so it will require rehearsal. However, it is also important to be yourself, and to be at your best.
