Simply scan this code with a free smartphone QR code reader and it will take you to www.allaboutbusiness.ie

RedLaser is one example of a free QR Coder Reader.

Firstly let’s start with the definition.

QR code (short for Quick Response) is a specific matrix barcode (or two-dimensional code), readable by dedicated QR barcode readers and camera phones. The code consists of black modules arranged in a square pattern on a white background. The information encoded can be text, website address, smartphone app or other data.

Sometimes it’s just easier to explain with examples:

When Paddy Power launched their smartphone app, they placed a QR Code beside all their print ads. By simply scanning the QR Code, it opened up the app on your phone which you could then download.

Radisson Hotels have added QR Codes to their menus in 11 hotels.

Here are some suggestions I have proposed to clients in the recent past.

1. Food Producers

QR Codes on packaging providing information for recipes to serving suggestions.

2. Auctioneers

Print a QR Code beside each property you display in your window. People looking at your window display could scan a code which could return them information such as GPS Coordinates, house plans etc.

3. Window or Shop Display

Any retail outlet could print a large QR Code with a special offer delivered to the phone when scanned. The retailer could see proof by simply asking the punter to show them their phone screen.

4. Business Cards and other stationery

Add QR Codes to your business cards and stationery providing customers with additional information about your business.

There are countless examples online from major brands that are really benefiting from this wonderful technology.

Getting Started

There are tonnes of websites which allow you to create your own QR Code for FREE. One example is http://qrcode.kaywa.com . Simply enter the information you wish to share with people when the code is scanned.

There are also tracking options that customers may want, similar to website traffic statics.
