Master Media are an outdoor advertising company based in Dublin. They offer companies wishing to advertise outdoor a unique opportunity to promote their brand or event through their nationwide network of diverse outdoor and transit media. We spoke to David Dwyer founder of Master Media to find out more.
Why and when did you start-up Mater Media?
I started in May 2007 after seeing a gap in the market for outdoor advertising. I wanted to prove that I could do it. I was confident that I could provide a better level of service then what was currently out there.
What is your own professional background?
Originally, I started out as a Chartered Account and I have a certificate in Business Studies. I was a Financial Controller for the Holiday Inn in Dublin. I also have experience in advertising sales for B2B magazines and National newspapers.
What have been your biggest challenges and achievements so far?
In the beginning getting the first few orders secured was the hardest thing. In terms of the biggest achievement, securing support from large advertising agencies has been invaluable. Another big achievement for us was getting blue chip clients and large brands on board, this has helped tremendously.
What are your plans for the future?
We plan to grow our current offering of nationwide bus advertising and move into the interactive advertising sector. By listening to our customer needs we plan on improving our service and this will result in increasing revenues.
We sell advertising on over 400 privately operated buses nationwide so there is potential there to grow the business. On the digital side we are currently exploring two different products that we plan to launch into shopping centres nationwide which is a new product offering.
Who do you look up to in business?
I really look up to Michael O’Leary. He has a no nonsense approach to business that you have to appreciate. I don’t enjoy flying with Ryanair though!
How are you promoting the business?
Predominately we advertise in trade journals. Every month we advertise in the Irish Marketing Journal. We also use online advertising. We contact advertising agencies directly through competitions and promotions.
Do you use any Social Media?
Not at the moment. We have set up Facebook page but we haven’t begun to actively promote it yet. There are plans to do so in the future. Social Media is a really important form of advertising nowadays so it is something we have not overlooked.
