Described by travel writers as an ‘Oasis of Peace’, Wineport Lodge is an award-winning guesthouse nestled on the banks of Lough Ree, Athlone, Co. Westmeath, and offers guests an idyllic destination to unwind, surrounded by native woodland.
Jane English and Ray Byrne initially opened up the business as a restaurant on the site near Glasson, in Co. Westmeath, which ran successfully for 10 years until 2002, when they added 10 rooms offering overnight lodgings. They gradually added more accommodation throughout the years, and the lodge now has 29 rooms, each named after a wine region, for guests to escape the stresses of daily life.

A lot has changed since Nigel Gahan’s Grandad started the Gahan family business in the 1950s; then a “cornershop butcher” in Raheny in Dublin. Today, Gahan Meats is a wholesale butcher, based in a state-of-the art facility in Finglas that was built to keep up with demand.
In supplying a customer base that includes hotels, restaurants and catering firms, Gahan Meats has a large number of people to keep in touch with. Traditionally, the company would have favoured a very direct, in-person approach to marketing and customer engagement. With the advent of new technology and the increasing size of the business, particularly this year, that has changed.
